How do you promote good behaviour in toddlers?

It is believed that the mind of a child is like a piece of clay that can be mould in any form we desire. Hence, what you teach the little ones, especially when they are toddlers, the learning stays with them possibly for life and also deeply impacts their overall personality. If we intend our children to live well in the society when they grow up, it is most essential that they are taught good behavior, pertaining to their behavior, way of speaking, mannerism etc. Importantly, both the parents as well as the teachers need to play an instrumental role here in this regard.

Proper Greeting

When we speak about one’s behavior, the foremost apparent manifestation of it is how we greet people we meet. Our rapport and course of interaction with the other person is almost instantly determined by the manner we greet each other, thereby making it a very fundamental facet of one’s personality. The toddlers must be taught that they should greet everyone they meet with a smile; they should be made to understand that a cold response to others, words of disrespect and annoying mannerism would never earn them the love and adulation they would otherwise have received.

Importance of Please and Thank You

While some might argue that these two words have probably been the most misused by mankind, there is no denial of the fact that the words ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You’ instill in person the trait of being humble. It is essential that the little ones remain most humble in their thought, action and approach as they grow up.  ‘Please’ can at times help one get the toughest of job done, a mere ‘Thank You’ can lead to an unbreakable bond of gratitude and cooperation.

Good Table Manners

Good  table manners are certainly among them. To start with, every toddler must be diligently taught about washing hands before eating anything, while they must also be informed about the etiquette of not starting to eat before everyone else is served. Furthermore, the kids must be told that they should always eat and chew their food with their mouth closed. And once a meal is over, the first thing to follow is a proper hand and mouth wash.

Importance of speaking politely

Some people might be very talented or brilliant, but at times they fail to earn the respect they deserve, probably due to the manner they speak. Remember, nobody is obliged to listen to a rough or rude tone, and as a matter of fact, it significantly impedes a communication. Being an effective communicator is an important trait required to be instilled among the kids, and half the work is done if one simply speaks in a polite manner.
